Open Studio

Week 2: August 9-15, 2026
Instructor: Bonnie Paisley

Class Material Fee: $0

About the Workshop

Students will work on their own projects in this open studio class, giving themselves the time and space to develop their work with the support of an experienced instructor. This class is the perfect opportunity to begin (practice a new skill or material with guidance and feedback), return to (pick up where you left off, push your ideas further), and set yourself up for SUSTAINING your work after the week ends. The instructor will be communicating with each student ahead of the week so as to be able to tailor the instruction to each individual. In class, guidance will include custom designed exercises for skill building, material discussions and demonstrations, exploring historical and contemporary artists, selected readings, a few guided feedback sessions with the instructor and with peers, and ample time devoted to your work.  All is possible, most materials are welcome (certain material and process constraints will be in place--things like kilns, printing presses, and certain sculptural processes will not be available).

About Bonnie Paisley

BonniePaisleyatwork - Bonnie Paisley Scott.JPG

Bonnie holds a BFA from RISD and an MFA from Portland State University. She is the owner of Paisley Studios, a community fine art studio that offers grounding support to artists of all skill levels through visual art instruction and an affordable membership program for womxn artists. In her own work, Bonnie is a maximalist, creating surfaces and textures that are encrusted, saccharine, and refuse to be neatly contained. Drawing inspiration from the kitchen activities and living spaces of the women in her family, her work evokes ephemeral celebrations and carnivalesque arrangements and infuses utilitarian materials with elegant sensuousness.

Instructor will provide:

I would like to schedule a meeting with each student on Zoom ahead of the class to get a better idea of your past experience, goals for the week, and discuss what you can add to your packing list, and what I might be able to bring for you. I have a vast knowledge of both traditional and non-traditional materials and I like to provide lots of options.

What students should bring:

Students should bring whatever they need to work for the duration of the class, along with a something to write with and something to write on (a small sketchbook, notebook, etc).

What you choose to bring will depend on the individual, where you are traveling from, and how you want to work. Keep in mind that you will have a full 5 days to work with your materials.
