Instructor: Claudia Hollister

Class Material Fee: $110

About the Workshop

Deep dive into the magic of cyanotype printmaking! This immersive workshop takes you from crafting strong digital negatives to creating richly layered, expressive cyanotypes prints with Negative Transparency Films. You'll begin with a mandatory pre-workshop Zoom session focused on creating successful negative transparency films with Claudia.

At camp, students will learn:

  • Preparation of the cyanotype solution and how to coat various papers

  • Techniques to manually correct and improve negatives

  • Methods for creating double prints and custom transparencies using gesso

  • Use freehand painting, stencils, and rubber stamps

  • Explore various toning baths and hand-tinting practices

  • Finishing exposed works using natural fixatives

There will be daily discussions with reflections on the outcomes of the prints, facilitating collaborative learning.

Claudia Hollister

Claudia Hollister’s passion for gardening informs her innovative approach to her art. In 2008, she adopted encaustic painting, and in 2014, she began incorporating cyanotype prints into her work.

During the 2020 pandemic, she captured floral images using her iPhone for cyanotype prints, creating vintage‑modern pieces in luminous shades of blue. Using distinctive papers, her cyanotype prints and collages blend natural beauty with technical mastery from her Portland studio.
