Painting: Open Studio with Sandy Roumagoux

This class will allow students to investigate and explore ideas for new work in paint (oil and/or acrylic) and mixed media. The work also can be a continued investigation or the beginning of a series on subjects such as landscape, figurative, political, still life. Any size canvas or painting surface is acceptable, stretched canvas, board, gessoed paper. Bring the supplies you usually work with, oil and/or acrylic, assorted sizes of brushes, solvent, rags, palette, palette knives, and assorted sizes of painting surfaces, from 10” x 10” to as large as you can haul in your vehicle. This class will allow the student to experience the freedom to take risks, to try new ideas, to push one’s techniques, and to enjoy the process.

CLASS SUPPLY LIST
Students need to bring:
- paints (oil and/or acrylic)
- brushes (all sizes)
- gessoed paper
- soft rags for painting
- jars and or coffee cans to hold solvent and/or water
- palette for paint palette knife(s)
- essential oil and/or acrylic paint palette: large tube of White (Titanium), smaller tubes of alizarin crimson, cadmium red light, ultramarine blue, Prussian blue, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, halo green and, black (optional)
*Please note: For health and well being of students in enclosed studio spaces, only non solvent mediums are allowed, such as walnut alkyd, walnut or linseed oil. Small amounts of Gamsol can be used, but the container must be covered when not in use. Linseed or safflower oil should be used for brush clean up. For environmental responsibility no paint or heavy metals (true cadmiums or cobalts) go down the drain.
