2023 Week 1: Experiential Drawing Class Supply List

EXPERIENTIAL DRAWING WITH LINDA BERKLEY
Students will need to bring the following to class: 


ASSORTED DRAWING MATERIALS
Bring your favorite drawing supplies, including the supplies with *asterisks.
Note: I’ll most likely have something you can use if you miss something!

DRY

  • *Assorted graphite pencils – different hardness (2H, *2B, *4 or 6B),
  • *Vine/Willow – box of charcoal sticks
  • *Compressed charcoal/conte/pastel – different hardness and/or color
  • *White color pencil or white gel pen or white conte pencil or stick
  • *Chamois
  • *Erasers – kneaded & vinyl

 

LIQUID

  • *Ink pens – assorted (choose 2 or more - gel, felt-tip, rollerball, ball-point, such as 05 Micron, brush, paint pens such as ‘Posca’)
  • Ink – (choose one or more - India, Walnut, or colored inks) with soft round brushes
  • Water-based paints (watercolor, gouache or acrylic) with brushes
  • Marker – different size tips

 

COLOR MEDIUM

  • *Bring at least one set of color drawing media of primary hues
  • *Colored pencil set (or watercolor or gouache paint set) for scientific illustration type drawing)
  • Craypas
  • Caran D’Arche crayons or pencils or sticks
  • Crayons

 

DRAWING TOOLS

*Scissors or Xacto knife

  • paper glue (such as glue stick, acrylic gel medium or “Yes” paste)
  • Ink dip pen or bamboo pen or ink brush
  • *Masking or drafting tape or cellophane tape
  • *Spring clips or pins to hold paper to drawing board
  • *Refillable brush
  • Ruler

 

DRAWING – PAPER

  • *Large or medium sized drawing or mixed media paper pad - suggest 18” x 24”.
  • *Portable Sketchbook(s) – your preference (recommend small field-size sketchbooks and 11” x 14” spiral bound or opens flat)
  • Transparent paper - Tracing paper (or Mylar or Vellum) - optional
  • Bristol - optional
  • Brown paper - optional
  • Watercolor paper - optional

 

Optional:
DIGITAL DRAWING TOOLS & APPLICATIONS - handy for references, composition development, exploring variations. Suggestions: Ipad, laptop, digital pen (Apple pencil), Procreate, Adobe Photoshop

INSTRUCTOR WILL PROVIDE:

  • Bristol
  • Tracing paper
  • Large format roll paper Canson XL Mixed Media
  • Black or colored paper
  • Gel medium
  • Gesso
  • India Ink
  • Bamboo Sticks – long drawing tools
  • Assorted drawing implements and materials for experimentation
  • Roll of Tracing Paper
  • Newsprint
