2023 Week 2: Contemporary Collage Class Supply List
CONTEMPORARY COLLAGE WITH DAYNA COLLINS
Students will need to bring the following to class:
- Paper cutting scissors for small detailed cutting
- Paint brushes - 1/2", 1", and 2" flat brushes
- brushes (we will be using these for gluing and painting papers)
- Gel medium (Golden or Liquitex); it is your choice if you want to use matte, semi-gloss, or gloss (I prefer semi-gloss)
- X-acto knife with new blade
- Self-healing cutting mat (12x18 inches is a nice size, but bring what you have)
- Pad of 9x12 inch 140-pound watercolor paper (can be torn into smaller sizes, but this is a good size for how we will be working)
- Metal edge ruler
- Water container
- Box of wax paper
- Roll of paper towels
- A pad of palette paper
- 5 old hardback books, the more worn and wonky, the better (to be pulled apart and cut up)
- 5 vintage paperback books
- Old magazines or catalogs to use as glue pages
- Roll of painter’s tape
- Fine tipped white acrylic pen (POSCA pens work great)
- Fine tipped black acrylic pen (POSCA pens work great)
- A few assorted pencils, ie, #2, Stabilo in black, graphite, ebony (I will bring lots of pencils to share)
- A “side” journal (an old hardback book, or a purchased journal with mixed media weight paper); this journal will be used for leftover paint, collage scraps, examples of techniques, and experimentation.
- Variety of collage papers,* be creative and bring what you have. Some ideas: old letters, envelopes, maps, dictionary pages, old newspaper clippings, ticket stubs, etc. Truly bring things you have on hand; I bring a lot to share!
