Native Plant Basketry with Elaine Falbo

​This class is for any one who would love to learn to weave a basket. In the class you will learn to weave with native materials of Oregon including willows, barks, bulrush , cattails and roots. We will weave a round willow basket, an oval basket for a shoulder bag, and more free form sculptural baskets. You will also learn about gathering materials: when, what, and how to gather native weaving raw material. Weather permitting, we will work mostly outside. 

Class Material Fee: $40

CLASS SUPPLY LIST

Instructor will supply: materials for weaving
  • Willow
  • Cedar
  • Cherry bark
  • Cattails
  • Bulrush

Students Need to Bring: 
  • Sharp pair of pruning shears
  • Locking knife
  • Awl​

Instructor Profile:                    
Elaine Falbo


Elaine has been weaving baskets for 40 years. She started with teaching herself to weave with native wild materials and under the direction of great teachers from France and Switzerland. Her work has been sold to designers in New York and Los Angeles, and in local collections.  For 25 years, she has been selling and creating in her shop/studio in Portland called Bella Flora.
