WEEK TWO: August 8th through 14th
ENCAUSTIC - Sarah Wolf Newlands
Encaustic painting is a solvent-free painting technique in which pure
pigments are suspended in hot wax and damar resin. This workshop will
focus on basic encaustic techniques including glazing, fusing,
collage, incising, inlay, and image transfer. Demonstrations will
include support and grounds preparation, studio set-up, and painting
techniques. Instruction will include a brief overview of the history
of the encaustic painting and an examination of wax in contemporary
art. Information about materials, resources, and fundamental safety
issues will be provided. This course is recommended for painters who
are interested in incorporating encaustic into their own studio
practices.
