Who was Pru Twohy and why name a scholarship for teachers after her?
Pru was a dedicated educator. She believed in nurturing young teachers, and encouraging bright young folks to stay in the field. She was a member of the board for many years, and served on the faculty and scholarship committees. Pru was one of the early teachers who worked with Portland State University so that we could offer classes for credit. She was chosen by her colleagues at school to attend the Westtown Conference on Teaching & Learning in PA the summer following her retirement - when she exclaimed (she was good at exclaiming) that she was too old - all agreed that her presence would be a gift to the young teachers. That turned out to be exactly what happened.
The essential Pru involved: Doing your best. Becoming totally immersed in the work at hand. Having the most fun possible.
