About Jennifer

A native of Dallas, Texas, I received a BFA at Southern Methodist University. After undergraduate school, I attended University of Florida to study as a post-baccalaureate student. Inspired by the flora my work changed dramatically, from thrown utilitarian pieces to hand built, soft shapes based on botanical forms.

Finishing a year in Florida, I was invited to be an assistant at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts inDeer Isle, Maine, before going on to graduate school at Utah State University in Logan. There I taught undergraduate ceramics for three years. Upon earning an MFA in 2001, I traveled to Japan, visiting great pottery sites, including the studio/museum of Shoji Hamada. Back in the states I was granted an artist’s residency at Chester Springs Studio in Pennsylvania, teaching both at the studio and at a small college.

My current work continues with the use of botanically influenced forms. I find seeds particularly interesting for their propagation of life, their ability to store information for future life, and their potential for alteration and manipulation. The last opens intriguing and frightening doors of which I have only begun to explore.
